My Questions:

What different social classes were in Ancient Mesopotamia?

How did each class fit into society?

What was each classes' daily life like?

First, some basic information.

The social classes in Ancient Mesopotamia fit into the basic three classifications: lower, middle, and upper class. It was possible to move up classes from birth, through marriage. In the lowest class there were slaves and commoners. Commoners still had homes, clothes, and jewelry, but they were practical, not fancy. In the middle class there were merchants, artisans, and scribes. They were slightly higher than commoners, having fancier homes and clothing. In the top classes there were priests and the King. The King was in a class all by himself, and was the ruler over all in his land.

Timeline:

Mesopotamian social classes were around since Mesopotamia starting growing in 4,000 BC. They are still there today.
